Busy weekend for Micro Games hopefuls for golf
The weekend will see duffers vying for 10 available spots in the CNMI National Golf Team working their butts off on the greens and fairways of the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Qualifying round coordinator Jess Wabol said he will be using the 4th Annual NMC Foundation Open this Saturday at the Kagman course’s west venue as another qualifier for the men’s and women’s team that will compete in the 6th Micronesian Games.
Organizers have set a 7pm shotgun start for one of the year’s biggest golf tournaments on Saipan.
The following day, Sunday, Micro Games hopefuls will once again drive down to the Laolao Bay Golf Resort, this time at its east course, for another qualifier. Wabol said tee time is set at 12pm with check-in time scheduled an hour earlier at 11am.
The former Oleai Elementary School principal said the men will tee off from the blue tee, while women will continue to start from the red.
The rest of the April-May schedule for the qualifiers are April 30 at the Kingfisher Golf Links and May 20 at Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort. Wabol has also set May 21 as a make-up day for golfers who missed a round.
Wabol is expected to pick five golfers for the men’s team and same number for the women’s team a month or two before the start of the Games, which is set from June 23 to July 2 on Saipan.
