If more Filipinos seem to be flooding the streets lately, it’s not because more of them got hired as nonresidents; it’s just their season to come as tourists to the islands.

Many CNMI-based Filipino workers usually host their relatives during April and May, the summer break in the Philippines.

Couple Ambet and Nancy Omampo, who are currently based on Saipan, have their three teenage sons—Louie, Lester, and Levi—on island.

“We are enjoying our time together. [We’re] so happy they are here,” said the Omampos.

The parents brought their visiting sons to Managaha yesterday.

“It’s so fun! The water is incredibly clean and clear. There’s plenty of fish even in the shallow water,” said 19-year old Louie.

Ofdelia Angeles, an accountant working on Saipan for more than 10 years now, is overjoyed with the arrival last Wednesday of her two teenage children: Sai and Denmark.

“I’ve been hoping to bring them here. Finally, they are here,” she said.

Sai, 17, who acquired the nickname “Sai” because of her parents’ work on Saipan, said she loves going around the island.

“It’s so beautiful. I love it here with my mom and sister Maei,” she said.

Several other Filipino workers on island have invited their parents and spouses on island.

Isagani Cortez said he can’t wait to see his wife and son, who are arriving next week. “I’m extremely happy. I missed them dearly. They will be here with me for the first time,” said Cortez, who has been on island for five years.

There are about 20,000 Filipinos in the CNMI, consisting a majority of nonresident workers.
