‘A waste of govt resources, time’
The Legislature’s resolution to investigate and to terminate the lease agreements for Shell and Mobil’s because it might be unconstitutional was uncalled for and sends another wrong signal to investors. The thing that bothers me the most is the fact that I provided the Legislature solid evidence of a fraudulent contract but nothing happened to it. It appears to me that the Legislature and the powers-that-be are operating on a double standard: Kill the outside investors and look the other way for local investors. This may seem protective but it is NOT right and I strongly disagree with your resolution. It is not because it will hurt me but it will hurt locals who partner with outside investors and are definitely concerned about it.
I know the motive behind the bill but to kill these contracts outright because you found a loophole is not right. While I agree that you are trying hard to help your constituents, this is no way to treat our investors. Have you noticed that these two companies have long been treated like criminals? Bills and resolutions are piling up against them. These bills are becoming a nuisance, a waste of precious government time and certainly unprofessional. Could this be the reason the Japanese community is leaving the CNMI? Frankly, if anyone is to be blamed about this issue it is the attorney who miserably failed to do his research and make the proper recommendation. To penalize these two companies when they acted in good faith is a crime in itself. Think about it!
