PREL chosen to assist education agencies in Pacific jurisdictions
Pacific Resources for Education and Learning has been selected by the U.S. Department of Education to act as both the Pacific Regional Educational Laboratory and the Pacific Comprehensive Center for the Pacific region.
The five-year programs, made possible by $25 million in funding from the U.S. Education Department’s Institute of Education Sciences, will assist educators and state and local education agencies in American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.
One of 10 RELs across the U.S., the Pacific REL will conduct regional education needs analysis, training, and technical assistance, as well as fast response applied research and development projects to meet the region’s needs. This will include conducting rigorous applied research and development projects; contributing to the National Laboratory Network; disseminating products regionally and nationally; and carrying out laboratory planning, management, and reporting.
The Pacific Comprehensive Center, Region XV, is 1 of 15 regional centers and 5 content centers nationwide funded to further the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The Comprehensive Centers, authorized by Title II of the Educational Technical Assistance Act of 2002, are established as technical assistance centers to help states and jurisdictions raise student achievement and reach the goals of NCLB. Centers established under this program replace the former Comprehensive Regional Assistance Centers, the Regional Technology in Education Consortia, the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education, and the Regional Mathematics and Science Education Consortia.
