The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region IX and the Division of Environmental Quality will hold a Munitions Recognition and Safety Training this month.

DEQ public information officer Reina Camacho said that, although the training is a collaboration between the two agencies, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would be facilitating the training sessions.

Camacho said the training would be held on April 25 from 9am to 12pm for government agencies, while another session from 1pm to 4pm would be held for the CNMI public.

“Private contractors and environmental consultants are encouraged to participate,” said Camacho.

Both sessions will be held at the Northern Marianas College Room D-1. Due to limited space, the seating for the training is limited to 50 participants only and will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis, so interested individuals are requested to contact DEQ immediately to register and confirm their participation.

Training committee head Ray Masga said the seminar would teach land managers and others of munitions and safety precautions. He said the training would give participants the background in implementing the Military Munitions Response Program for assessment, investigation and cleanup.
