Saipan’s newest chicken and pizza house formally opens today in the exact location where the Church’s Chicken was in Susupe.

Called Papa’s Chicken & Pizza, the new fast food place offers a whole range of chicken meals—hot wings, chicken roll, chicken stick, fried chicken—and other favorite items such as pizza, french fries, rice, baked potato, salad, and biscuits.

The store takes pride in its spicy chicken selections—spicy chicken, chicken stick, and barbecue—as well as its lip-smacking pizza.

Non-spicy fried chicken meals that taste almost like “Church’s chicken” are also available.

Papa’s Chicken & Pizza actually offers items that were sold at Church’s Chicken Saipan such as the “Papa’s pizza” and biscuits.

“If they miss the biscuits, they can still have them here. People love those biscuits,” said Papa’s Chicken & Pizza manager Hanna Joung in an interview.

She said that store owner, Sky International, guarantees “the same quality taste” that Church’s Chicken used to offer its customers.

The store management had actually thought of buying the Church’s Chicken franchise but later decided to rather “invest in the food.”

Church’s Chicken closed its store in Susupe and moved to Guam last month.

“Rather than invest in the franchise, we invested in the food quality. We will do our best to make our food taste really good,” said Joung.

She said spicy selections are a good start for local consumers.

“When we had sample tests, only the bones were left of the chicken. People like the spicy chicken,” she said, smiling.

“We will continue to check what our customers want,” she added.

Reasonable prices

Joung said Papa’s Chicken & Pizza offers its meal selections at reasonable prices.

It has seven combo meals that range from $4.29 each to a high of $20.99.

Items are also sold individually for as low 59 cents for a biscuit or $1.99 for a piece of chicken, $1.15 for salad, and $1.49 for a slice of pizza.

The store also offers kid’s pizza meals and kid’s chicken meals at $2.59 to $3.99 each.

Joung said the management prices its product reasonably in consideration of the overall economic condition in the CNMI.

“We are mindful of our prices. We want people to enjoy good food at reasonable prices,” she said.
