Hustlers stalking Sure Shots
Round Two Hustlers rebounded mightily from its loss to Da Place Sure Shots last week by coming within a game of the pacesetter in the continuation of the Tapochao Division of the Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League Tuesday night.
The Hustlers improved to 23-12 after sweeping USSP Dreams 6-0 at the USS Peleliu Club.
Starring for the Round Two team were singles players Jerry Soriano, Mario Diola, Joey Lucido, Nolan Cultura, and the doubles pairings of Soriano and Diola and Cultura and Joey Lucido.
Round Two players were so dominating that they only dropped one game the entire series when Cultura was extended to a third and deciding game by Dreams’ Richard Celestino. The loss dropped the USSP team to 17-19 in the season.
Sure Shots tried its best to fend off Hustlers and almost duplicated Round Two’s skunking of Dreams with a 5-1 rout of USSP Fotten Palau at Da Place Sports Bar to improve to 24-12.
Blowing great guns for Sure Shots were Roman Rodriguez, Luis Fajardo, Jojo Talibong, and tandem of R.J. Mascarinas and Frank Pangelinan and Fajardo Senen Pangilinan. The only loss exacted by Fotten Palau was courtesy of R.E. Rengiil who defeated Pangilinan in three games.
The win gave Sure Shots a 24-12 record, while the loss dropped Fotten Palau further down the cellar at 8-28.
Over in the Banzai Division, VFW Fotten Gaga II is in a similar bind like Sure Shots and leads the division by just a game over Wild Wild West, 23-13 to 22-14.
Fotten Gaga’s hold on the top position was made precarious following its 4-2 win over Vargas Hot Shots at Jonny’s Bar & Grill. Wild Wild West, for its part, dominated VFW Pool Warriors, 5-1, at VFW Post 3457.
The losses dropped Vargas Hot Shots and VFW Pool Warriors to 13-23 and 12-24 in the team standing, respectively.
In the only other game in the B league, Jewel Night Shooters (18-18) forced Godfather’s What Doin’ (20-16) into a 3-3 draw at the Jewel’s Sports Bar.
