Basula Produkto has been awarded a 2006 Environmental Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region IX in San Francisco, California.

Basula Produkto is a recycling company operated by Ericco Enterprise/Maeda Pacific Corp. joint venture.

Thomas Nielsen, president of Maeda Pacific Corp., was notified by Wendy Chavez of U.S. EPA about the award yesterday morning.

Basula Produkto was nominated for the award based on its three years’ effort to rid Saipan of waste paper, cardboard, metals and plastics.

Eric Cruz, president of Ericco Enterprise, has been in the waste management and recycling business for over 15 years in the CNMI.

Cruz and Nielsen said they were very pleased to receive the news of the award and feel very honored to get it. The official presentation of the award will be at a ceremony on April 18 at the U.S. EPA offices in San Francisco, California. (PR)
