Kudos to PIC!
The Pacific Islands Club has indeed come to our rescue.
Their General Manager, Kieran Daly, and Resident Manager, Jerry John, along with Mark, their Maintenance Supervisor, walked the campus of Hopwood with me and some of our personnel. They asked what we wanted and needed done and we told them.
They brought their maintenance people down to review the requests, drew up lists of materials needed, developed a schedule and went to work. Every afternoon they would show up with their staff and materials and go to work.
They painted, poured concrete, made new backboards, fixed several broken planters around trees that students use to sit on, installed a training course like the one that used to be along the beach path, made and installed benches and they landscaped.
They installed over 100 sheets of tin roofing on various places where we had leaks and, while at it, reinforced all of the structural trusses they encountered.
They even hauled off all of the scraps, old tin and excess materials every day to make the campus safe and picturesque for our students. Their maintenance personnel are skilled self-starters who understand how to work.
Hopwood was specifically told not to mention their activity to anyone, that they would decide how and when to make their largess known to the public and we held our collective tongues.
The Hopwood community can not begin to express our gratitude to this wonderful company and these fine men. I am sure HJHS will be doing something in the near future to officially recognize all the Pacific Islands Club has done for us.
