Oleai Sports Complex track facility to be closed to public
With major competitions just months away, the Division of Sports and Recreation has closed the track and field facility at the Oleai Sports Complex to the public, citing the need for full availability of the facility for training athletes.
This according to DSR official Elias Rangamar, who said the closure of the facility would be effective beginning Monday, March 20.
“We apologize to the public and we are asking for their understanding, but we’re going to have big events coming up and a lot of the athletes from both the schools and the national teams will need to use the track to train so that they could compete the best they could,” he said.
Rangamar said the track facility would be closed from 3pm to 8pm. The public will be able to use the facility at other times.
Events in the near future include the McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships and its weekly qualifiers, as well as the 6th Micronesian Games.
“The school teams will practice from about 3pm to 5pm, so even the National team will have their practice pushed back, but again, this is to ensure that the athletes have the proper environment to train and focus on their goal of representing their school and the CNMI in the upcoming competitions.
