Tan Holdings finally unveiled the results of years of planning and hard work with the grand opening of Fiesta Resort Guam Saturday evening.

The hotel lobby overflowed with congratulatory bouquets, as officials of the Guam government, as well as business friends and family members from Guam, the Philippines, and the Northern Marianas, joined Tan Holdings in celebrating the opening of the renovated hotel.

Among those in attendance were Guam Gov. Felix P. Camacho and first lady Joan Camacho, members of the 28th Guam Legislature, members of the Asia Pacific Hotels board, Tan Holdings chair Dr. Tan Siu Lin and his wife Lam Pek Kim, Tan Holdings chief executive officer Willie Tan, and Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan.

“A couple of years ago I remember when I was first inaugurated, I met Jerry [Tan] at a party and he [said] ‘We’re coming back…the Tan Family is coming back to Guam and we’re investing in a big way.’ They’ve always been here but I know they’ve spent well over $20 million in the renovation of this hotel.

“We, the people of Guam, are extremely grateful for your investment and confidence in our economy and in our island. The many businesses that you run help employ many families and you’ve made a difference. I feel that your impact that your family has had, not only in Guam but throughout Micronesia the Philippines and throughout Asia, has benefited many people and we thank you for your contributions,” said Gov. Camacho.

Also expressing appreciation to Tan Holdings was Guam Visitors Authority chair David Tydingco.

“On New Year’s Eve 2002, this was the location where we announced to the world that Guam has re-opened after the devastation of Typhoon Pongsona. So it’s fitting that tonight we celebrate a true re-opening of this brand new facility,” he said.

The grand opening was also highlighted with the presentations of three awards from Gov. Camacho, the 28th Guam Legislature, and a Congressional Record from U.S. Congresswomen Madeleine C. Bordallo to Dr. Tan Siu Lin.

Dr. Tan’s biography was read into the Congressional Record on March 9, and was entered into Volume 152 as the 30th entry.

Before closing the ceremony, Dr. Tan shared a few words with all guests.

“We never forget that Guam has been our home and we could not achieve the success we have if it had not been for the support of our local government in Guam, as well as bankers, our customers, and all our friends here tonight,” he said in Chinese, as translated by his son, Jerry. “I assure you that we will continue our longstanding investment commitment to Guam, the Northern Marianas, as well as the Micronesia region. You will see more investments from Tan Holdings in the future and we will continue to contribute to the society and community of Guam.”

Fiesta Resort Guam has 318 rooms and offers luxurious modern tropical accommodations. It is located at the picturesque Tumon Bay.
