Nut thief in Koblerville

On Sunday morning, March 12, between 10am and 11:30am, a thief jumped over my house’s fence, climbed the two betel nut trees inside and stole six branches of ripe nuts.

My wife and I were inside the house and my German shepherd dog was in the front section of our house when the trespass occurred. We did not hear any suspicious sounds and neither did my dog. Apparently the thief had been watching my dog and when he got the chance to go in, he did it in seconds, climbing the trees that were about 12-14 feet high and got my betel nuts. This was the second time my betel nuts were stolen.

My wife Cathy was really upset, because we were supposed to get those betel nuts to bring with us to California when we leave before the end of this month.

So she decided to do something about it. We did not report this to the police, since I know it will come down to simple paper work and with no results, so we came out with a hand saw and a machete and cut down all the five betel nut trees.

We felt bad cutting them down, but we believe that, as long as these betel nut trees are there, we will continue to be a victim of a betel nut thief and, heaven knows, maybe they might break into our house eventually to get something else.

My message to the thief is, “If I cannot have my own betel nuts, then neither will he! Enjoy eating the betel nuts you stole, because that’s the last one you will ever get from us.”

To my friends in Kobler, watch your betel nut trees, there’s a betel nut thief watching your trees day and night. Harvest it before he does!
