Tinian and the Department of Public Safety Enforcers both left the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium with big wins Tuesday night in the ongoing 2006 Inter-Government Basketball League.

In the opener, the Tinian cagers got off to a strong start and held off a late charge by Procurement and Supply to bag their sixth win in nine games with an easy 100-82 victory.

Ton Borja and Peter Manglona had the hot hands early on for Tinian, scoring 10 and eight points to lead a 25-10 attack in the first 10 minutes of play.

P&S was able to put on a better show in the second quarter as league leading scorer Edgar Pangelinan nailed two bombs from downtown and punched in 12 points, preventing P&S from falling farther away. At the break, Tinian still led by a comfortable margin, 46-32.

Tinian got back to its scoring spree as action resumed, outscoring their opponents, 28-17, behind solid contributions from the entire crew to take a 74-49 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.

Determined to claw back into contention, P&S put up a desperate charge in the fourth period as Mike Guerrero stepped up his game and buried 16 markers, while Pangelinan added another 13 points, fueling a 33-point explosion. Unfortunately, the push was far from being enough as Tinian still left with an 18-point victory margin.

Borja and Manglona led Tinian with 24 and 20 points, while John Santos supported them with 16 points.

Pangelinan finished with a game-high 40 points, while Guerrero and Herman Tudela had 20 and 12 points.

Later in the evening, DPS recovered from a slim first quarter deficit, dominated the second period, and cruised to an 81-56 victory over Commonwealth Health Center.

With Tom Diaz dropping in a couple of triples, CHC was able to take the early advantage and led 21-19 after the first quarter.

The lead was quickly erased as the Enforcers swung favor to their corner with a 21-point effort while playing solid defense and holding CHC to just five points. As a result, the Enforcers rested with a comfortable 40-26 lead at halftime.

Both teams struggled a bit in the third period, however, the Enforcers were still able to pad their lead courtesy of a balanced attack and was up by 17 points, 56-39, with one period remaining in regulation.

Cage belle Connie Camacho then stole the show as she connected on two long range jumpers, while Joe Ito sped his way for eight points, enabling DPS to close strong.

Peter Camacho and Ito led DPS with 15 and 13 points, while Tony Raho and Diaz paced CHC with 15 and 14 points.
