CNMI women’s softball team named
The Saipan Softball Association is not permitting procrastination in the planning stages for the 6th Micronesian Games as the organizers of the CNMI’s Slow-Pitch All-Star Team have already selected the top women for the job.
Thirty of the best underhanded artists on island will get their chance to earn one of the final 15 slots on the team beginning this weekend as team manager Julian Kodep will work the girls out at noon this Saturday, March 18, at Dan Dan Softball Field.
It was no coincidence that half of the players chosen came from the top two teams in the league, as many looked at them as having a veritable roster of all-stars to begin with. Seven players from the championship winning Hitters made the cut as Emy Quitugua, Angela Ngirbedul, Thelma Mizer, Yui Smus, Felisa Brel, Pauline Tudela, and Pamela Riungel have a shot at marching behind the star, stone, and mwarmwar this summer, while runner-up Bomsoro placed eight on the list with Jovie Omar, Joyce Taro, Leilani Betevua, Dolores Rangamar, Mary Skilang, Connie Camacho, Arcy Moncrief, and Beverly Ngirmekur.
Mix-A-Lot logged five entries to the list as Tanya Cepeda, Marisa Leon Guerrero, Bert Camacho, Liz Libria, and Julie Omar earned a nod, and the powerful It’s Okay squad sent another five as Lucy Aldan, Mercylyn Santos, Norma Mira, Dolores Yanneris, and Shirley Ada got in.
The Pacific Amigas sent Lenice Kapileo, and the Tanapag Lady-8ers sent Jennifer Teigita, while the Sai-Steve Rookies sent Nadine Camacho, Antonette Laniyo, and Maridel Camacho to the show after finishing in last place.
SSA president Ray Palacios was present as the coaches and managers from this year’s Women’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League undertook the arduous task of selecting the team last Friday in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium and said that he feels bad for the coaching staff’s next duty of trimming the roster in two.
