Marshals at the Guma Hustisia will now be able to meet the strictest security concerns with the implementation of a new x-ray inspections system this Friday.

All visitors entering the building will be required to have their carried items scanned.

“The new state-of-the-art x-ray system will enhance the protection of court patrons and personnel,” said senior deputy marshal Jesus S. Santos. “Currently, marshals who man the door of the courthouse do hand searches of carried items. The x-ray system will enable the marshals to more efficiently examine the contents of carried items and will protect marshals from sharp objects they sometimes encounter.”

The x-ray system uses online image analysis methods so that a marshal can quickly and efficiently search carried items. It is widely used at airports and courthouses to scan visitor luggage and hand-carried items.

The Department of Homeland Security provided the funds for the purchase of the system. (PR)
