Saipan seaport posts nearly $500K in revenue tonnage

The Saipan seaport has reported nearly $500,000 in revenue tonnage in January and February this year.

CPA acting board chair Antonio S. Camacho, who heads the board’s seaport facilities committee, said 42 commercial vessels docked on Saipan during the period.

Based on the records, inbound cargo totaled 41,866 tons, amounting to $240,735; outbound cargo totaled 11,841, amounting to $68,087.

Total revenue tonnage—including P.O.L. throughput ($155,631) and cement throughput ($1,697)—reached $466.151.

Meantime, passengers fee collections from Jan. 14 to Feb. 17, 2006 at the port reached $22,947. The government collected some $12,000 from passengers in January and over $10,944 in February.

The port recorded a total of 2,529 paying passengers and 7,670 voucher passengers.

The government received $5,690 revenues from paying passengers and $17,257 from voucher passengers during the one-month period.

During the first three months of fiscal year 2006, Saipan seaport recorded a $3.5 million net income—some $2.3 million more than the first three months of FY 2005, reflecting a 171-percent increase.

Saipan’s total revenues reached $4.2 million: $3.9 million in harbor revenues and $261,147 in non-harbor revenues, reflecting a 133-percent increase and 28-percent increase, respectively.

Harbor revenues include wharfage fees, passenger charges, dockage fees, entry fees, and other harbor fees.

Non-harbor revenues refer to rental income, franchise fees, parking fees, and others.

Total expenses for personnel, maintenance, and operations, totaled $612,037, which is 28 percent higher than the previous year.
