Late explosion lifts Hustlers over Ol’Aces
Just when it seemed the Huslters were out of it, the team put on a show in their final at bat to beat the Ol’Aces, 10-9, in the Junior League at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field last Sunday.
The Hustlers were down by five runs, 2-7, heading into the top of the seventh inning when the team’s sluggers brought out their whooping stick and stunned all in attendance with and eight-run explosion to take the lead, 10-7.
The Ol’Aces were able to put up a good fight in their last shot and scored two runs before the third out was recorded.
The Ol’Aces had a good start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Hustlers were able to knot the score with two runs in the top of the third, but the Ol’Aces were able to grab control of the game with a run in the bottom half of the inning, another in the fifth, and three more in the sixth, setting the stage for the Hustlers’ comeback.
Nokkie Lizama led the Hustlers, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and four runs batted in, while Anthony Aldan went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. John Pangelinan also had a solid outing, getting two hits in three chances while scoring a run and driving in another.
Dave Camacho led the Ol’Aces with three hits, two runs, and two RBIs, while Ben Taisakan went 2-for-3 with a run. Chris Meyers also had a hit and two RBIs.
FIELDERS 12, COMETS 2
Also earning a victory in the Junior League were the hard ballers wearing the Fielders uniform as the team had their way against the Comets for a 12-2 victory.
Anthony Tenorio was perfect at the plate with his 2-for-2 production, while also scoring two runs, driving in one, and drawing two base on balls, while Ton Agulto went 1-for-2 with a run and three RBIs.
While the two Tons were having their way, the Fielders were able to grab a 4-0 lead in the first and scored another five runs in the second inning. After two complete innings, the Fielders led, 9-2.
Still not satisfied, the team busted out another three runs in the third inning and held the Comets scoreless, forcing officials to invoke the 10-run mercy rule after five innings of play.
SENIOR LEAGUE
HUSTLERS 13, AZTECS 2
The Hustlers family also had success in the Senior League as the team from the south also scored a 10-run mercy rule victory over the Kagman Aztecs, 13-2.
The Hustlers opened with five runs in the first inning, and still held the lead despite allowing two runs—one in the second and another in the third.
After being held in check for two innings, the Hustlers went Anatahan and erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to highlight their charge.
Bert Taitingfong led the Hustlers with two hits, a run, and an RBI, while Ken Taitingfong had a hit, two runs, and two RBIs. Mart Pangelinan also added a hit and two runs.
Nicolas San Nicolas and Hank Arurang led the Aztecs, each hitting a double and scoring a run.
The story, though, was the Hustlers’ patience at the plate as the team drew 10 base on balls and got another two bases on hit by pitches.
BIG LEAGUE
OL’ACES 10, FIELDERS 4
After falling behind in the early goings, the Ol’Aces rallied and stumped the Fiedlers, 10-4.
The Fielders seemed in control of the bout and led 4-1 after two innings, but the Ol’Aces went on to score three runs in the third, two in the fifth, and secured the win with four runs in the sixth.
Franco Flores went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, while Ryan Tudela had two hits and a run. Tyrone Omar also chipped in a hit and two runs for the Ol’Aces.
Cadez Tenorio had two hits and a run while Peter Tenorio went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Fielders.
