Road to HS Rocball finals heats up
Defending champion and No. 1 ranked Mwaliyas is getting a run for its money in Game 1 of their semifinals series against No. 4 Black Magic in the World Organized Rocball High School League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Black Magic was able to take the first set and currently leads the match after two and a half sets of play, 34-31.
The wizards entered with their game faces on and wasted no time in taking the lead. Dior Jones, Dean Mathew, and Frank Suda were on target with their shots and helped Black Magic open with an 11-4 run.
Mwaliyas broke out from their scoring slump and began closing in, but their hopes of taking the first set was quickly turned back as Black Magic was able to close out, 16-9.
Stunned but not out, Mwaliyas responded with a fury and despite a couple of mishap on first serves, managed to get into rhythm and take the second set, 16-11, cutting their deficit in the overall points tally to just two points, 25-27.
The two teams were neck and neck with Black Magic leading the third set, 7-6, when action was halted as students had to return to class.
The match resumes today at 11:30am.
Jones currently leads the game with eight points on four kees, while Suda has four points on a couple aces for Blak Magic.
Ken Tanzawa, Quincy Johnson, Pedro Iguel, and Darrel Roligat each have four points to lead Mwaliyas.
The winner of the three-game series will face Ochobu, which defeated the Lagooners, 2-1, in their series last week. The two remaining teams will then face off in a best-of-five series for the title.
