Sixers I showed no mercy against Sixers III, as the defending champions tripled the score of their sister team, 92-30, to take the top spot in the ongoing 2006 Inter-Village Youth Basketball League Thursday night at the Chalan Kanoa Basketball Court.

Mathew Duenas and Vince Guerrero kicked off the evening’s lopsided contest by scoring 10 points apiece, as Sixers I opened a 44-6 lead after the first eight minutes of the ballgame.

Sixers III managed to stave off the onslaught in the second quarter, limiting Sixers I to a mere 11 points. The only problem was Sixers III forgot to score and finished the canto with a goose egg across its name and trailed 6-55 at the break.

Sixers I returned to its fastbreaking ways at the start of the second half, rattling Sixers III with 16 points, as they led 71-12 heading into the fourth and final quarter of the ballgame.

There was more shooting practice for Sixers I in the final eight minutes. This time, however, Sixers III managed to go toe to toe with their older siblings and registered their highest quarter total in the game—18.

But it was still not enough to outscore Sixers I in the quarter, as the defending champs tossed in three more points, 21, to leave with the 62-point rout.

Duenas topscored for Sixers I with 16 markers, while Roxanne Duenas and Guerrero added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Nicko Salem fired six markers to pace the developmental Sixers III squad.

The win was the third in as many starts for coach Ray Duenas’ squad, while Sixers III dropped to 0-2 for the season.
