The House leadership is eyeing to have Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s first State of the Commonwealth Address on April 21, 2006.

House Speaker Oscar M. Babauta and other House majority members introduced on Friday a House joint resolution calling for a joint session of the Legislature to receive the governor’s SOCA.

Resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio will deliver his report on the state of the CNMI’s Washington office in the same joint session.

The proposed date for the SOCA falls two days after Fitial’s 100th day in office.

H.J.R 15-1 schedules the annual address at 10am, April 21, at the Honorable Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

The CNMI Constitution requires the governor to report at least annually to the Legislature regarding the affairs of the Commonwealth and new measures that are necessary or desirable for the CNMI.

CNMI statute also directs the Washington representative to report annually to the Legislature on his official activities and federal matters requiring the attention of the government or the CNMI residents.
