Lady Dolphins extend win streak
Two-time defending champion Marianas High School Lady Dolphins extended their win streak and kept their perfect record intact in the ongoing 2006 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Association High School Basketball League yesterday.
The Lady Dolphins controlled the first and final quarters against the Kagman High School Lady Ayuyus and won their fourth straight with a 60-46 victory at the MHS Gymnasium.
Emy Oiterong and Marlene Agbanlog were key factors in the Lady Dolphins’ first quarter attack, combining for all but two of their team’s points to lift Marianas High to a 13-6 advantage.
The Lady Ayuyus put up a better response in the second quarter and matched their opponents point for point to prevent their deficit from ballooning.
The Kagman girls continued to keep pace and stayed within striking distance by again matching the Lady Dolphins in the third stanza, but they weren’t able to keep up as reigning most valuable player Werlly Quitugua heated up in the final quarter for 10 points, as MHS outscored their opponents, 24-17, for the 14-point victory margin.
Ma. Janelle Guiao tried to bring Kagman back in the final minutes as she connected on three bombs from downtown.
Quitugua finished with a game-high 18 points, while Oiterong and Agbanlog supported her with 14 points apiece.
Guiao led the Lady Ayuyus with 15 points, while Crystal Mendiola added 10 points in support.
As of press time, results of the boys game between the Ayuyus and the Dolphins were still not available.
