Environmental Stewardship Awards open nominations
Do you know of any person, organization or business establishment actively engaged in protecting our environment and natural resources? Do you know any child, aged 10-17 years, that has helped to ‘save’ the environment through a class project or by extreme personal effort? If so, it’s time to give them the recognition they deserve! It’s time to nominate them for the Environmental Stewardship Award.
The Division of Environmental Quality presents awards to outstanding environmental heroes during its annual Environmental Awareness Week in April. And DEQ needs your help in finding these heroes. Therefore, DEQ is now accepting nominations from members of the community for businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools or government organizations, individuals or young people that have tackled environmental problems on our islands.
Projects that are eligible include, but are not limited to, habitat restoration, schoolyard beautification, energy and waste reduction, environmental education and community outreach, wildlife protection, and natural resource conservation.
Award-winners must have engaged in projects that demonstrate significant environmental impact to the CNMI.
To inquire about the program, contact Fran Castro or Reina Camacho by fax 664-8540 or email deq.nonpoint@saipan.com or deqpio@pticom.com.
Nomination forms may be downloaded from the DEQ website at www.deq.gov.mp.
Nominations and supporting documents are due to DEQ on Wedn, April 12, 2006, before the close of business.
Thank you for your nominations, and keep looking to this page to read the stories of our island’s environmental role models. (PR)
