Grace Christian Academy threw a luncheon party for the parents of their students yesterday at the school chapel, the highlight of which was the awarding of certificates of recognition to parents Susan T. Hofschneider and John and Alice Manglona.

More than 137 parents attended the event that was held from 12pm to 2pm. GCA principal Faith Dela Rosa said the event honored parents, especially Hofschneider and Manglona.

Both parents gave brief remarks during a short program. Dela Rosa said the parent awardees told the rest of the parents that they share with them the honor of being good parents to all children at the school.

Dela Rosa provided welcoming remarks; pastor Raymond Kinsella led the invocation.

Select K5 students showcased a dance number, while 4th graders from sections Hope and Love presented their winning skit about parents’ leadership. The principal said the skit was initially presented during the Parents Leadership Month Family Fun Day held two Saturdays ago at the Garapan Fishing Base.

The luncheon was the second time the school organized such an event this year, in line with the Parents Leadership Month this February.

The students and parents had the chance to know more about parenting during a question-and-answer portion. The school also gave handouts for the parents to reflect on, added Dela Rosa.

The principal said she was thankful for the participation of the parents yesterday. “It was particularly overwhelming to have the parents gather in school for a luncheon despite their busy schedules, especially on Mondays,” she said.

The parents also agreed during the forum to help in some activities such as the upcoming rummage sale next month. She said parents would lead in coordinating the activity for the entire Saipan community.

Pastor Kinsella also spoke in front of the parents on the leadership challenges they face everyday with their children and the community. Youth pastor Alvin Owens closed the program with an inspirational speech and prayer for the parents.
