The Micronesian Games Organizing Committee has released the official logo for the 6th Micronesian Games, which will be held on Saipan this summer.

The logo, designed by sports enthusiast and committee member Bob Coldeen, comprises of two birds known as Fakpi.

“The two birds are Fakpi and represent cooperation and competition,” Coldeen said. “They come to fly together just like the islands do for the Micronesian Games. One bird is slightly ahead of the other which symbolizes competition between first place and second place. They follow close to each other, which symbolizes father-son, mother-daughter, brother-sister and friendships.”

Coldeen added that the he emphasized family relationships because several athletes competing now had parents who participated in the previous Micro Games.

“Fakpi in the Northern Marianas Islands fly with the attributes of speed, style and grace, which represent the athletes who participate in the Games. They are white, the symbol of peace that exists within Micronesia,” he said.

Coldeen also designed the logo with multi-colored lettering.

“The Micro Games lettering is multi-colored to represent multiple cultures that come together for the Micronesian Games,” Coldeen said.

Coldeen presented the logo to the MGOC during their meeting last Tuesday night and got the approval of the committee.
