As a result of a conference entitled “Justice for Children: Changing Lives By Changing Systems” held in Minneapolis, Minnesota in September last year, advocates from the legal, judicial, and child welfare systems have been meeting in a collaborative effort to assure, through a safe and expeditious process, that children in foster and shelter care are in safe homes and shelters.

The group recently accomplished a State Action Plan, which outlines priorities that would help fulfill the goals established at the conference and improve placement outcomes for abused and neglected children without any undue delay.

The group meets periodically and includes Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman, Attorney Bruce Mailman, DYS Director Debra A. Inos, Clerk of Court Bernadita A. Sablan, Supreme Court staff Nora Borja, and DYS Child Protection Unit Supervisor Laura T. Ogumoro.

Staff of the DYS Child Protection Unit recently conducted presentations to parents and caregivers. The workshops were sponsored by the Public School System in an effort to provide Day Care Centers with adequate information on the Child Abuse Reporting Laws.

Presenters from DYS included DYS director Debra A. Inos and CPU caseworkers William P. Limes and Resel B. Magofna. (PR)
