Senate confirms seven Fitial appointees to their respective posts
The Senate confirmed yesterday seven top officials of the Fitial administration.
The Upper House voted unanimously to adopt the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations.
The six-member panel held confirmation hearings for eight appointees on Feb. 16 and 21.
Of the eight, only acting Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Ignacio Dela Cruz was not confirmed. He is currently off island.
The newly confirmed appointees include Attorney General Matthew Gregory, Personnel Director Mathilda Rosario, and Indigenous Affairs Office executive director Gonzalo Q. Santos.
The Senate also confirmed Labor Secretary Gil San Nicolas, Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez, Public Works Secretary Jose Demapan, and Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Daisy Villagomez-Bier.
Other appointees who have yet to be confirmed are Elisa A. Long, who has been named to serve as chief public defender; John Edward Untalan, Gregoria F. Omar, Marian Aldan-Pierce, and Alvaro Santos as board members of the Marianas Public Land Trust; and Jerry Tan and Emma S. Villagomez as members of the Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors.
Their nominations are pending in the Senate.
In related news, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial on Wednesday appointed individuals to fill four vacant positions on the Board of Professional Licensing.
They are real estate appraiser Mitchell Aaron; civil engineer Roy Reyes; public lector Jose A. Songsong; and Remedio Buniag, representative of the women sector.
