A Chinese female tourist drowned in waters off Managaha Island last week, while a 4-year-old girl nearly drowned at the children’s pool at the Pacific Islands Club on Saturday.
The Department of Public Safety yesterday identified the drowning victim as 33-year-old Wang Dao.
Police said Dao and her group went to Managaha last Monday, April 16.
Witnesses told police that Dao was seen lying down in the water as the group members were exiting the water to head back to shore.
The witnesses called for help as they applied CPR on the victim. A boat then transported the victim to Smiling Cove Marina. Two life guards administered CPR on the victim on their way to the dock.
The boat arrived at the dock at 2:40pm. Medics brought the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center, where a doctor pronounced her dead at 2:56pm.
DPS forwarded the case to the Office of the Attorney General.
In the PIC incident, DPS said as of yesterday afternoon the girl was still in CHC’s intensive care unit.
Police said a doctor stated that the girl has been admitted at ICU for further observation and treatment due to presence of fluid in her lungs.
Police said the girl’s stepfather stated he heard a whistle and ran to a group of people gathering at the pool area.
The stepfather found out that it was his stepdaughter who was being assisted.
At least two persons administered CPR and revived the girl. Medics then came and transported her to CHC.
Police placed the incident under further investigation.
