Close to 30 Dandan Elementary School children from fourth to sixth grade washed cars from 10am to 2pm on Feb. 18, 2006, at Shell’s Highway Express station on Middle Road, Gualo Rai, and raised $217 to help fund their planned trip to South Korea in June.

The schoolchildren were led by their teachers T.J. Manglona and Kate Borja.

“It’s a big help,” said Borja of Shell’s Suds for Funds event. “We’d like to thank Shell for providing the venue and the things we needed like soap, buckets and water; Coca-Cola for providing refreshments; and Beach Road for helping organize this event.”

Borja said they’ve already set aside $500 so far for the planned trip that involves around 11 DES students. She said they plan to do more fundraisers for the project.

The group pre-sold car wash tickets, which enabled them to raise as much money as possible.

The next Shell Suds for Funds car wash event is scheduled for March 15, 2006 at the Airport Road station. Interested parties may call the station for inquiries.

Shell regularly holds the Suds for Funds event to help community groups raise money for their various undertakings. Shell provides water, soap, sponges, buckets, chair and tents. Coca-Cola Beverage (Micronesia) Inc. provides the refreshment.

Several groups have availed of the program, among them the Grace Christian Academy, Glushko’s Academy of Performing Arts, the Kagman High School senior class, and the Marianas High School’s Explorer Program. (PR)
