Taisakan’s office lends a hand at KES
Koblerville Elementary School acting principal Erica Sonoda-Thornburgh calls the staff of the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office “angels from heaven,” soon after they extended their assistance in repainting the school building.
On behalf of school principal Eric Evangelista, Thornburgh thanks the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office staff for fixing the school in preparation for its upcoming accreditation scrutiny by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in March.
Northern Islands Mayor’s Office project coordinator Emilio Ayuyu said his office had called the school if there was anything they could do to help.
Immediately, the school asked them to repaint the entire school. Ten of the mayor’s staff, including the mayor’s son, started repainting the school last Wednesday.
Thornburgh said the school had purchased cans of paint last month to prepare for the accreditation but they have limited manpower resources, so this assistance by the mayor’s office is very welcome.
She said the school is thankful for Northern Islands Mayor Valentin I. Taisakan for allowing his people to work at the school for two to three weeks.
Ayuyu said their voluntary work at the school is part of their community service. They agreed to it, knowing the situation of the cash-strapped Public School System, he said.
“This way, we know that if the children have a better environment they would be more inspired to go to school,” Ayuyu said, quoting the mayor as saying that it is imperative for children to have a clean school to go to everyday. (Marconi Calindas)
