Man who beat up wife in front of children gets jail term
A man charged for beating up his wife in front of their two children has entered a guilty plea.
Lucio E. Saures, 35, pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona accepted Saures’ plea and sentenced him to one year in prison, all suspended except for 72 hours, with credit for 24 hours already served.
Manglona ordered the defendant to start serving his prison term at the Department of Corrections on Feb. 24 at 5pm.
Manglona placed the defendant on probation for one year and required him to pay a $200 fine, $25 in court assessment fee, and $100 in annual probation fee.
The judge directed Saures to perform 40 hours of community work service and write a letter of apology to the victim.
Saures was also ordered to submit to a counseling evaluation at the Community Guidance Center.
A review hearing was set for June 7, 2006.
The Attorney General’s Office charged Saures with assault and battery, and interfering with a domestic violence report.
The defendant signed a plea agreement with the government, entering a guilty to assault and battery and resulting in the dismissal of the other charges.
