On the ropes FILATA sets important meeting Friday
Filipino-American Tennis Association secretary Joy Minor and adviser Perry Cacdac is calling on the entire local tennis community to join them this Friday when they will try to chart a new course for one of Saipan’s oldest tennis organizations.
The meeting is set at 7pm on Feb. 10 at the American Memorial Park tennis courts and important matters involving the continued existence of FILATA would be discussed, according to Cacdac.
Minor said all tennis players—FILATA members and non-members—are invited to attend the meeting.
Cacdac said he hopes past FILATA presidents and officers would come to the meeting so that they could remedy the state of the floundering association, which only managed to stage one tournament last year, the Powerade Team Tennis Tournament.
In its heyday, FILATA regularly hosted three tournaments a year. Aside from the Coca Cola-sponsored team tennis event, it also previously organized the Century Insurance Co. Tennis Classic and the Shell Marianas Open.
Cacdac is appealing to tennis players to come to the FILATA meeting this Friday, so they “could hear their suggestions and opinions” on how to resuscitate the tennis organization.
