The members of the Saipan Southern High School Chapter of the National Honor Society recently hosted their first annual Read Aloud event.

Being a community service event, the purpose of Read Aloud is to promote literacy in the youth of the CNMI by reading to elementary students.

NHS members read storybooks to students at Dandan Elementary School, Koblerville Elementary School, San Antonio Elementary School, and William S. Reyes Elementary School.

The National Honor Society is an elite organization whose members uphold the high standards of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Read Aloud allowed the NHS members to exemplify such notable traits.

A goal set for Read Aloud was to encourage students to read and to foster literacy in education. NHS members are role models in society that elementary students can look up to and admire.

The students and teachers of all four elementary schools were very appreciative of the NHS members.

Saipan Southern High School’s National Honor Society has planned other future community projects to help create a better community in the CNMI. (PR)
