The Hitters pulled to within a game of the first place Bomsoro on Tuesday night as they doubled up on the Pacific Amigas, 10-5, under the lights of Tan Ge Field in the continuation of the Women’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League at the Oleai Sports Complex.

The Hitters pounded out 16 hits to improve to 5-2 on the season and got solid performances from their top players, and pitcher Felisa Brel continued her mastery from the mound to earn yet another win.

Brel also rose to the challenge at the plate with a 2-for-4 outing with the swat stick that yielded a single and a double. Brel put her base running skills to work to score a pair of runs as did Thelma Mizer. The shortstop also drove in three runs off of two base hits to give Bomsoro chase.

After trailing 3-2 for the better part of the contest, the Hitters took the lead in the top of the six with a three-run outburst before hammering out five runs in the final inning to put the game out of reach for good.

Now the Hitters have a real chance at pulling even with Bomsoro, as they were the only team to knock them off so far in 2006.

Its Okay 13, Tanapag Lady-8ers 11

The competitive spirit pulsed through the Its Okay dugout on Tuesday night as they twice rebounded from deficits to emerge from their match with a win over the Tanapag Lady-8ers at Tan Ge Field.

Dolorina Panuelo provided the thunder and the lightning to Its Okay’s power-packed offensive resurgence as the outfielder went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and an inside-the-park homerun.

Panuelo finished the night with three runs batted in and left a trail of flames behind her as she rocketed around the bases to give Its Okay the clear advantage late in the game, but she got plenty of help from her teammates in the most exciting game of the night.

Third baseman Norma Mora went 2-for-3 with a single and a triple, as did center fielder Vivian Hocog—who drove in three runs—while Lucy Aldan pitched a gem and went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

After trailing 9-6 throughout two and a half innings, Its Okay mounted a comeback with a run in the bottom of the third before tying the game at nine apiece with a pair of runs in the fourth.

The Tanapag Lady-8ers took the lead again with a run in the top of the fifth, but Its Okay answered with three runs to take the lead for good. The win put Its Okay in fourth place at 5-4 while the Lady-8ers slipped to 2-6 in sixth.

Mix-A-Lot 26, Sai-Steve Rookies 4

After shutting down the Mix-A-Lot offense in the top of the first inning, the Sai-Steve Rookies scored in their first at bat to take a 1-0, but that’s as much fun as the lovable ladies would have as Mix-A-Lot answered with 17 consecutive scores in the top of the second to wrest control of the game for good.

By the time the game was over, Mix-A-Lot piled on an additional nine runs for a total of 26 tallies before the umpires were forced to invoke the Saipan Softball Association’s 10-run mercy rule when the Rookies failed to score 13 run in the bottom of the fifth to prolong the pain.

Outfielder Charlene Cabrera was a force at the plate with a stunning 3-for-4 showing that drove in a pair of runs off of three singles, while Pauline Camacho drove in a six-pack on three base knocks and drew a walk.

The hit parade continued as outfielder Liz Lebria went 2-for-3 with a pair of base hits and a sac fly, and Marissa Leon Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a single, a triple, and three runs batted in.

Catcher Liz Palacios also got in on the action with a single, a double, and three runs batted in.
