Four interns from the North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, are currently on the island for a six-week internship-teaching program at the Grace Christian Academy.

Melody Matson, 23; Heather Indelicato, 24; Molly Barnhart, 24; and Kelly Dawe, 24, are assisting the school’s regular teachers. The four are accompanied by adviser Sharon F. Connor.

Connor said this is the interns’ first time to be in the CNMI. This is, however, her second time and she is happy to be back on the beautiful island of Saipan.

She said the interns would be handling some classes and would be exposed to several effective methods of teaching.

Apart from the academic objectives, Connor said, the interns are also here to experience life on an island.

The interns told the Saipan Tribune Thursday that they are enjoying their stay on the island. “I love it here. It’s been great. Students are so welcoming and very interested in learning,” Barnhart said.

“I love it. It’s been wonderful here,” said Dawe, who is helping a 1st grade instructor in the school.

The NCU interns said they are also grateful to GCA for providing them the best treatment and accommodation.

Barnhart said the team realized that it would be a sad day for them when they leave the island on Feb. 23 because they have “fallen in love with the island.”

“No wonder previous interns from NCU who came here decided to stay behind,” she added.
