After being fed a steady diet of baseball, baseball, and more baseball at the Baseball Confederation of Oceania’s academy for two weeks in New Zealand, local all-stars A.J. Allen, James Kintol, David Camacho, Ofero Taitano, Jonathan Salas, and coach Ike Taitano are all set to pass on their knowledge to the rest of the community.

While each of the players were considered standouts before leaving for the intense school of hard knocks, they all agree that they are far better for having spent the time learning from the best in the extreme southwest.

“It was fun. It was a good trip. All of us learned a lot about playing baseball that will help us playing here,” he Allen.

All of the players said that their hitting skills improved by leaps and bounds while in New Zealand under the watchful eye of a number of former Major Leaguers and current scouts for the show.

Now Saipan’s delegation to the academy is ready help the rest of the Commonwealth’s future elevate its skills in advance of the 2006 season of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association.

All former all-stars between the ages of 13-18 are invited to join the BCO grads for practice at the Oleai Sports Complex on Monday, Jan. 16, at 5pm. The freshly trained athletes will have a number of drills and training techniques that will benefit all batters and pitchers during their two-hour session at the ballpark.

There is still no word on additional training sessions in the future, so it behooves the local stars to take advantage of the opportunity to tap the brains of the game’s top ballers while they can.
