Security would be tight in today’s swearing in ceremonies for Gov.-elect Benigno R. Fitial, Lt. Gov.-elect Timothy P. Villagomez, and Washington Representative-elect Pedro A. Tenorio, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS spokesman Eric F. David told the Saipan Tribune yesterday that strict security would be enforced at the Marianas High School Gymnasium, the new venue of the ceremonies.

“It’s going to be very tight. But again it’s open to the public,” David said.

David also stated that since the past two days, they have provided full security to the invited off-island VIP guests.

He disclosed that 30 to 45 law enforcers from DPS, Customs, Department of Corrections, Attorney General’s Investigative Unit, and Division of Fish and Wildlife, have been assigned to provide security for the duration of the inauguration.

Only those enforcers who are certified to carry weapons have been deployed for the safety of the guests and the ceremonies, David said.

The spokesman said the enforcers underwent training for security personnel protection detail conducted by the DPS’ elite Tactical Response Enforcement Team.

The training was on how to provide security to VIPs and dignitaries from off-island, he said.

Former Rep. Claudio Norita, Police Capt. Pete Leon Guerrero, and former Police Officer Arnold Seman are in charge of the security arrangement.
