RP consul Gayola retires
Philippine Consul Wenceslao Gayola has returned to the Philippines, having retired from his post in December last year, Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.
According to Philippine Consul General Wilfredo Maximo, Gayola left the CNMI on Dec. 29, but prior to the diplomat’s departure, the Philippine Consulate on Saipan threw a send-off party for him to show how much his three years of service on Saipan was appreciated by the diplomatic outpost.
Maximo said Gayola’s return to the Philippines would only be temporary as he is expected to fly to Canada to reunite with his family.
“He was a great help to me since my assumption to the post,” Maximo said, adding that Gayola was very supportive of their programs, especially during the absentee voters registration and the election date itself.
“Through his assistance and effort we were able to deliver the highest number of registrants among Consulate Offices in America,” said Maximo
The CNMI Philippine Consulate Office is part of the country’s consulate offices across the United States.
Maximo said Gayola was initially scheduled for retirement in September 2005, but he requested for an extension of his service until December 2005. Gayola assumed his post in February 2003.
Belinda M. Ante, who is expected to arrive on Saipan this month, will replace Gayola.
“I really regret to see him go because he was not only a good friend but truly a professional colleague,” said Maximo. (Marconi Calindas)
