U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii Chief Bankruptcy Judge Robert J. Faris conducted today, Friday, a hearing on some motions filed by the NMI Retirement Fund in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition.
Faris, who is in Honolulu, appeared at a closed-circuit teleconference at the U.S. District Court for the NMI.
Faris deferred ruling until the next hearing on the Fund’s motion to allow the Fund to pay, for a period of two months, 100 percent of the full amount of benefit owed beneficiaries.
Some motions were either granted or denied. The Fund decided to tackle other motions at the next hearing. The hearing lasted in less than two hours.
Faris set the next hearing for June 1 at 9:30am Saipan time.
