A proposed schematic design for Northern Marianas College-Tinian’s first student center will be presented to faculty, staff, and students for comment within this month.

According to the yearend report of NMC president Tony V. Deleon Guerrero, the final architectural and engineering work will be completed in 90 to 120 days, with groundbreaking expected before the end of Spring Semester 2006.

Administrator and director Jim Wedding said the Tinian Legislative Delegation provided the $400,000 capital improvement project funding for the project. The project, he said, is part of NMC-Tinian’s five-year development master plan.

In related news, Wedding, together with other NMC-Tinian officials, recently held a College Fair, with NMC-Tinian personnel participating in the event sponsored by Tinian Junior/Senior High School on Dec. 15.

The College Fair was organized for junior and senior high school students who want to explore their options as they begin to transition into society, said Deleon Guerrero.

NMC-Tinian participants were Joan Flores from the Talent Search Program, James San Nicolas of Upward Bound Program, Sue Palacios from the OARFA, program coordinator Maria Aguon, and Wedding, who gave information on the various educational programs and financial assistance for students to attend NMC.

At least 50 high school seniors and 60 juniors attended the College Fair. The students said that they are looking at NMC as their choice of college for preparing for the career of their choice.
