Several technological enhancements have been completed this year to improve teaching and learning at Northern Marianas College, NMC president Antonio Deleon Guerrero reported Friday.

NMC launched its student email system in Spring 2005, providing all students a free NMC email account upon registration.

The email system, Deleon Guerrero noted, serves as a supplemental means for instructors and college staff to communicate regularly with NMC students.

The college president also said that nearly all classrooms on the Saipan campus now have multimedia projectors. The Tinian and Rota campuses have also been equipped with additional projects for classroom use.

The projectors allow students to make multimedia presentations in class. The equipment can be connected to a computer or can be linked to classroom VCR or DVD players.

Wireless Internet access is also available in most classrooms.

Faculty members have also been provided laptop computers for use in and out of the classroom. “Instructors now use the laptop computers to access Internet resources, to create multimedia presentations, and to draw upon a variety of applications to improve teaching and enhance student learning,” Deleon Guerrero said.

Lastly, the number of students using the new NMC Online learning system has increased to 600 this year. “This new learning system provides NMC students with 24-hour access to course materials and online tools for better communication and interaction with instructors and fellow classmates,” according to the college president.
