RGA caps year with best ball
The Refaluwasch Golf Association will bid adieu to 2005 the same way it, greeted it by holding its Two-Man Best Ball Tournament this morning, Dec. 24, at the Coral Ocean Point Resort golf course.
Showtime is set at 10am with tee-off scheduled an hour later at 11am. Entry fee is $50, green fee is an additional $30, and slots are open for 12 pairs or 24 players.
Club president Jess Wabol said pairings would be determined through a raffle and the handicaps of teams would then be averaged to keep track of the best ball scores.
In the season starting best ball held in Jan. 15, 2005, Sonny Flores and Masood Karimpour beat all comers to win the tournament also held at the COP.
The Dynamic Duo smoked the competition, firing a net score of 55.5. Flores and Karimpour carded a gross score of even par 72—after going 36 in the front and the same score in the back—but had a superior handicap of 17.5 to take the top plum.
Finishing second in the inaugural tournament of RGA for 2005 was the pair of Eddie Peter and Jordan Kosam, who came up with a 58.5 net. Peter and Kosam had a gross score of 71 and 13.5 handicap.
Despite firing a second best gross score of four-under par 68, Nick Sablan and his partner Joe Demapan had to settle for third place because of their higher net score of 60. Sablan and Demapan played with an 8 handicap.
The RGA president also said that the club is entertaining new members at the start of 2006. Membership fee is $50, which is the same cost for renewals. Wabol is reminding current RGA members to take care of their membership dues as early as possible.
