Nine Northern Marianas College hospitality and management students recently received scholarship awards from the NMC Tourism Scholarship Board.

The NMC Tourism Scholarship Board presented the scholarship awards last week as part of its fulfillment of its mission to provide financial assistance in developing hospitality professionals in the CNMI according to NMC’s media release.

The nine recipients for the Fall 2005 semester are Jean Ballesteros, Rannel Calixterio, Kyungmi Han, Sylvia Leon Guerrerro, Li Min Miao, Joseph John Muna, Janice Santos, and Yan Zhang Sattler.

The board also awarded the scholarship to full-time Pacific Islands Club Russian sales manager Elitza Stoilova, who is taking hospitality management courses through the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association.

A total of 25 tourism scholarships have already been awarded to date to deserving students in the Commonwealth by the board.

Established in 2003 by an NMC Board of Regents Resolution, the NMC Tourism Scholarship is funded through monetary contributions from members of the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands.

A four-member board consisting of Hyatt Regency Saipan Human Resources director Josephine Mesta, Pacific Islands Club Saipan Human Resources manager Angel Yamashita, NMC Financial Aid counselor Daisy Manglona-Propst, and NMC Business Department chair, and Tourism instructor Larry Lee currently administers the scholarship.
