Century Insurance showed that it can do more than provide coverage to loved ones and valuables as Raymond Zapanta, Robert Talavera, Roman Mamauag, Ador Dimaano, and Simon Manacop, Jerry Tan, Ross Zapanta, Ernie Villarin, and Ruselle Zapanta notched Century’s second Philippine Bowling Association Thursday Night League championship in as many seasons.

The walls of the Capitol Bowling Center echoed with the sound of crashing pins and muffled sheers as the Century team received its trophy on Thursday night in Garapan after topping the 16-team league.

After falling short of the mark since 2001, Century Insurance earned its back-to-back titles by taking 61.5 of a possible 96 points during the season and totaling 71,627 pinfalls in the past 24 weeks on the lanes.

While Century boasted a complete lineup of pin busters, Ruselle Zapanta had the team’s top average with a whopping 192, followed by a tie between brother Raymond and Villarin at 189. The top trio was complimented by solid averages by Talavera (182), Ross Zapanta (181), Ador Dimaano (179), and Mamauag (173).

Previously, Century Insurance was known as the six-time champion Marianas Express Lines before they changed their name in 2000. The streak began when they won their first title in 1997 and finished when they finally relinquished their throne at the end of 2001.

This time around they faced stiff competition as well, but Century fended off the second place Outlaws down the stretch, as the runners-up fell shy of the mark with 56 points. Third place went to the equally talented Pacific Home Appliances squad (56-40), while Micronesian Brokers, Inc. (55-41), and Eyun Ji Corporation (54.5–41.5) rounded out the top five.

The remaining teams who let the good times roll at the lanes were Salon de Manila (53.5–42.5), Verizon Reload (51.5–44.5), Royal Crown insurance Corp. (50.5-45.5), Verizon Nitro DSL (50-46), Kautz Glass (47.5-48.5), Forex Saipan (47.5-48.5), Multi-Line Supply (41.5-54.5), Toyota Microl (41-55), Country House/Fiesta Hauz (41-55), Localz II (31-65), and Duty Free Shoppers (30-66).
