Laniyo gets Master Blaster status
Veteran smacker Myron Laniyo was upgraded to Master Blaster status after knocking in a jam in B-n-S’ 70-45 victory over Caropinos yesterday in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League at the Marianas High School.
Laniyo had scored in every other category except for the jam heading into the bout, and by the time he stepped off the court, became the season’s second member after going off for a whopping 26 points to lead his team to victory. The other member of the elite cast is Shane Yamada of defending champion Mwaliyas.
Aside from the jam, Laniyo pounded away for three aces, eight kees, a goal in the final game of round five.
Laniyo and company had a tough start as the Caropinos, comprised of rookie players, proved that they are improving and were on verge of staging a first set upset before B-n-S pulled the right strings for a 16-14 victory.
The Caropinos’ players continued to fight and give B-n-S a run for their money, but still weren’t able to get over the hill as B-n-S took the second set, 18-12, and stretched their lead to eight points, 34-26, in the overall tally.
The Caropinos then cooled off and Laniyo’s troops took advantage, gunning away for an easy 17-8 victory.
With their backs against the wall and still having a chance to force o-kon, the Caropinos bounced back for a stronger fourth set charge, but didn’t have the needed fuel to stay alive as B-n-S clinched the win with a 19-11 win.
Matthew Iguel and Vince Teregeyo led Caropinos with seen and six points, with Igual getting two aces and a goal and Teregeyo hitting three kees.
