Sugoi Seven wins first game
For the first time in a dozen attempts, the woebegone Sugoi Seven stunned the beach side sports world on Wednesday night as they pulled out their first win of the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League over Namete.
Little could be done to stop the cheerful team from celebrating its combined 33-0 sweep of their opponents—including the fact that Namete (4-7) was forced to forfeit due to a lack of players for the game.
Max Kuan was the lone Namete-an who showed up for the contest, and a mixture of players from other teams took the courts for a fun game until the Hot Myx and Aschaabw went head-to-head in the closest game of the night.
Kitinan Intharaluk and the Myx breached the 10-win barrier in sweeping fashion, but the 3-0 set count was anything but a laugher as the first two sets went down to the wire with Dustin Rhode and Aschaabw falling 11-9 and 11-9.
With the win already in hand, the Hot Myx scooped up the final set to further its cause for the regular season champs with three games remaining. Lick It, Stick It, Smack It (7-3) also continued to push for the playoffs as Rachel Bandelin and her band of bumpers, setters, and spikers downed Dale Roberts and You’re My Boy Blue! by taking two of three in another nail biter.
After taking the first set on the chin, 11-5, the Blue eked out a narrow extra-point victory in the second, 12-10, to set the stage for a back and forth clincher that went to Lick It, Stick It, Smack It, 11-9.
The loss dropped You’re My Boy Blue! to 4-6, and put them in the ninth spot of an eight team playoff race. Palaksi doesn’t have to worry about making the post season as they are already assured of a slot after sweeping the students of Saipan International School (1-9) in straight sets, 11-1, 11-5, and 11-9.
At 9-2, Palaksi is all alone on second place behind the Hot Myx and needs to continue its winning ways to stay in the big prize race for the league’s top three teams.
With a little help from, Pugua Time! could be in the hunt for upper echelon as they earned their seventh win by schooling the kids from Grace Christian Academy (1-9) after dropping the first set in a heart breaker.
The Eagles shocked Pugua Time! (7-3) by taking the opener 12-10, but the experienced squad returned to take the next two sets 11-3 and 11-5 to reaffirm its position in the seventh spot with four games left on the schedule.
Action continues on Tuesday, Nov. 29 when SIS challenges Got Beer? at 5:30pm, MHS looks to label Lick It, Stick It, Smack It at 6:30pm, America F@#& Yeah! tries to regain some of its swagger against Galuti at 7:30pm, and Puff, Puff, Pass attempts to smoke out You’re My Boy Blue! at 8:30pm.
