Pirates dominating SML Fall League stats

The Pirates are currently having a memorable season after a number of its players made the top offensive and pitching leaders list in the ongoing 2005 SML Fall League.

Pirates players combined for a league-best .361 batting average and make up the top five hitters as of Nov. 6, with veteran catcher Robert Bansil leading the way. The former Yankee put a hurt on the ball six times in 11 at bats for a league-leading .545 batting average.

Right behind Bansil is Jesse Iguel, who sports a .500 average after going 6-for-12 at the plate, while J.P. Sablan follows with a .471 average courtesy of eight hits in 17 chances. Luis Iguel is also among the leaders with six hits in 13 at bats for a .461 average while Ray Dela Cruz caps the top five with an average of .455 after connecting for five hits in 11 tries.

Stopping the Pirates streak is Henry Iguel of Tanapag, who has identical numbers as Dela Cruz, while Jerome Delos Santos and James Villacrusis of defending champion Hustlers follow with averages of .385 and .364. Delos Santos reached via base hit on five of his 13 at bats while Villacrusis has gone 4-for-11.

Dwight Quitano of the Pirates and Jordan Suel of Tanapag round up the top 10 with .357 averages. The two reached base with five hits in 14 at bats.

Quitano leads the runs department with seven, while Ricky Jones and Sablan follow with six. Tyrone Attao and Clint Quitugua are next in line with five runs while Delos Santos, Ben Jones, and Jordan Suel each scored four times.

Quitugua leads the league with three doubles, while Bansil, Delos Santos, Pat Alepuyo, and Jesse and Luis Iguel have two each.

The triples portion is headed by Sablan with two, while Oliver Secharmidal, Jones, Attao, Suel, and Jay Camacho each have one.

The runs batted in department is led by Delos Santos, Bansil, Sablan, Dela Cruz, and Attao with four apiece while Luis Iguel and Tino Mafnas each have three.

For their part, the Hustlers combine for a .316 average, Tanapag for .252, and the D9ers sport a .167 team average.

The same order goes for pitching, with Pirates’ hurlers sporting an earned run average of 1.68, the Hustlers 3.18, Tanapag 6.67, and the D9ers 8.72.

Meanwhile, the Pirates’ James Kintol and Tanapag’s Kelly Helliew lead the league with 0.00 ERAs on the mound. Both have pitched in four innings, with Kintol giving up two hits in two games with a 1-0 record and Helliew throwing in one game and allowing a hit.

Josh and Ray Dela Cruz of the Pirates follow with ERAs of 0.90 and 1.00, while Quitugua ranks No. 5 with a 1.50 ERA.

Other top hurlers include Jonathan Camacho (2.25) and Byrone Kaipat (3.00) of the Hustlers, Sablan (3.85), Mike Taitano of Tanapag (4.26), and A.J. Allen of the Hustlers (4.69).

Camacho, who has seen the most action among active pitchers with 16 innings pitched, also leads the league in strike outs after fanning 16 batters for an impressive ratio of one strike out per inning.

Sablan has 11, Allen and Kaipat have nine apiece, and Jesse Agulto has eight.
