Undefeated five see action this weekend

Undefeated teams MDX Amateur Radio Club, Cabalen-RP Construction/Transamerica, LIPS-Mobil, Visminda-Tambayan, and Cavite-Country House will see action this weekend in the continuation of the 6th Annual Budweiser- Coca-Cola UFO Inter-Organizational Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Division B pacesetters MDX and Cabalen test each other’s mettle in the second game scheduled at 8pm tonight. Both teams enter the contest with similar 2-0 records with MDX fresh from a 74-73 victory against NAMFREL-Region V/Sabungero Saturday and Cabalen probably still high from its morale-boosting 75-67 win against Samahang Ilocano at Pangasinense-Flor A. Miranda Sunday.

The MDX-Cabalen tussle follows the 6pm first game between winless teams 287 Club-McDonald’s and Bibak-Island Card, which both come into the game sporting identical 0-2 slates in Division A.

LIPS (1-0) tries to play catch up with Division A leader Visminda when it collides with CNMI Power-Mayor Juan B. Tudela (1-1) in the 4pm first game Sunday. LIPS will continue to rely on youthful forwards Kevin Cequena and Rowell Aranda and the all-around playmaking skills of point guard Andres “Jhun” Estolas Jr., while CNMI Power is expected to draw strength from the likes of Badong Camacho, Jun Tabora, and Adonis Macoto.

SIP (1-1) will then attempt to rebound from its loss to Cabalen last week when it battles Bayani-HBR International (0-2) in the second game set to start at 6pm. Bayani actually is also coming off a loss, succumbing to Samahan ng Manggawang Filipino-Shell, 78-89, also last Sunday.

The final game of the weekend is expected to be a slam-bang affair as defending champion Vismninda (2-0) takes on Cavite (1-0) beginning at 8pm. It would be interesting to note that Cavite’s coach Boy Garcia and key players Banjo Basila, Chris Domingo, Bernard Montano, and Edward Vega used to play for Visminda before a locker room rift forced them to form a new team sponsored by Country House, which also used to sponsor Visminda.
