PIC facelift features Greg Elliott artworks
Artist Greg Elliott completed the installation of four large paintings in the newly redesigned game room at Pacific Islands Club last month.
Each painting measures 4′ X 6′ and were done with acrylic paints on opaque Plexiglas.
This was part of an extensive renovation project that included upgrades to PIC’s porte cochere, lobby, games room as well as the creation of a new kid friendly splash pool.
Resident manager Jerry John said that Elliott’s unique style of depicting action images in a vibrant and colorful style made him the logical choice for this project.
“We had huge wall space and didn’t want to just put something generic up,” said John. “We wanted to work with a resident artist to try and depict the unique activities that guests get to experience when coming to PIC, whilst capturing the fun and liveliness which is the essence of PIC’s unique hospitality concept. It is with this in mind that we commissioned Greg to paint the waterpark and beach activities in his own colorful way and that is exactly what he did. These paintings jump off the wall!”
Elliott’s work also adorns the exterior face of PIC’s Kids’ Club, a mural undertaken just a couple of years ago.
“When [John] approached me for this project I was very excited because it was a great challenge,” said Elliott. “I’ve done many commissions but this was unique in the fact that they were twice to three times the size I usually do, plus they had to tie together in a cohesive style and message. I typically do my paintings in transparent watercolor but PIC wanted the work to literally bolt onto the walls and to withstand the outdoor elements. Acrylics were perfect for the job since they are water-based like watercolors but you can paint on just about any material with them. Commissioned work is always a challenge but very rewarding when you meet or exceed the expectations of the client. I never surprise people with something they didn’t expect. I show them detailed sketches and revise them as needed and discuss color options. It really is a partnership because the client and myself are working closely on all aspects leading up to the final paintings so that what they envisioned becomes a reality.”
Elliott is a full-time artist, living on Saipan for the past three years. His watercolors are diverse, ranging from landscapes, seascapes, architecture and figurative but always in his own unique and colorful style.
Elliott has been collected by individuals worldwide residing in North America, Hawaii, Saipan, Guam, Korea and Japan. In addition, he has produced commissioned work for many organizations including Proteus Sports LTD, London ; Suzuki Motor Corp., California ; Arizona Memorial Museum Association, Hawaii; and Ulsan Windsurfing Association, Korea, to name a few.
