Two men charged with sex abuse
Two men face sexual abuse charges before the Superior Court for allegedly victimizing two underaged girls, one of whom got pregnant, in two separate incidents on Saipan.
Police arrested 57-year-old Joaquin Songao Quitugua and 27-year-old Rodney DeLeon Guerrero in connection with the charges.
Quitugua allegedly impregnated a 14-year-old girl after raping her in Kagman sometime in January 2005.
In a bail hearing yesterday, prosecutor John Eaton asked the court to increase the bail amount that the court earlier imposed on Quitugua. Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo granted the prosecutor’s request and raised the bail amount from $25,000 to $50,000.
Eaton noted that the court had previously convicted Quitugua on embezzlement and related charges sometime in 1997, but the defendant is currently under probation.
In the other criminal case, DeLeon Guerrero allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl earlier this year.
Documents submitted by police before the court alleged that DeLeon Guerrero and his girlfriend had a quarrel at a San Antonio beach. The victim, who was with the couple, was then brought home by DeLeon Guerrero, police said.
On their way home, DeLeon Guerrero allegedly made sexual advances on the victim inside the car by kissing and inappropriately touching her in front of an As Perdido auto shop. Police said DeLeon Guerrero then drove the car to a secluded place north of the Hopwood Junior High School and again made sexual advances on the victim.
Police said the victim managed to get out of the car and run, but DeLeon Guerrero drove the car near her and offered to bring her home.
Judge Govendo set the bail amount at $25,000 in the case against DeLeon Guerrero.
The judge appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent both Quitugua and DeLeon Guerrero in the criminal proceedings against them.
The court also scheduled preliminary hearings and arraignment for Quitugua and DeLeon Guerrero.
