GCA breaks into win column at PIC
The Eagles of Grace Christian Academy finally broke into the left side of the win-loss column Thursday night as they swept the Sugoi Seven in the continuation of the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League.
The trio of Jasmine Anastacio, Stephanie Arnold, and Andrea Hofschneider teamed up to topple their o-fer elders, but they got a run for their money midway through their game.
After taking the first set 11-5, GCA was on the verge of losing when the Seven were serving game point at the 10-9 mark, but the tide was turned with good communication and teamwork as the Eagles rallied to win the second 13-11.
From there on out it was a laugher as GCA cruised to an 11-1 score in the third to complete the sweep. They had to do a little more work than Palaksi to get the win as the P-men were the beneficiaries of another Namete forfeit.
After refereeing, Rannel Calexterio got the word that his team cruised into third place at 7-2, but he didn’t realize that his team would have company in the three spot as Jon Cramer’s Got Beer? crew fell to Pugua Time!
After winning via Namete forfeit on Tuesday, Got Beer? got a face-full of action on Thursday night as Pugua Time! came out on top in the first set 12-10, but in the determined fermented beverage aficionados rallied to even the score at a set apiece by taking the second 11-3.
Pugua Time! made up for the lack of points and defense in the second with a ton of both in the clincher as they blasted Got Beer? in the third and final set, 11-0 to improve to 5-3.
America F@#& Yeah! put on a display of first rate volleyball to climb into first place by schooling the Dolphins of Marianas High in a match highlighted by the illuminating (hair color) of Mark McDonald.
Inspired in part by his courage to dye his follicles fluorescent, America F@#& Yeah! stepped up to the plate as team captain Patrick Cuffe, Ben Saltzman, Heather Hull, and Mary Deleon Guerrero made play after play to take the first two sets 11-4 and 11-8.
With the win in hand, the walking light bulb took a break while the rest of America battled in the third, but the Dolphins played with a “porpoise” to take the final set, 11-1.
The Hot Myx (7-1) kept pace with America F@#& Yeah! when they smoked You’re My Boy Blue (4-4) in sweeping fashion, 11-5, 11-1, and 11-9 on the strength of Bangkok Bomber Nan Intharaluk.
Intharaluk half-jokingly explained the reason his blue and yellow jersey read “Poison Boy” on the back was because “Nobody can touch me,” but there was no room to laugh as the Myx put the hurt on Dale Roberts and company from the jump.
